2010 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Race Car Revealed Ahead of Frankfurt Debut
Porsche has revealed their new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup factory race car.
Based on the 911 GT3 RS, the GT3 Cup features a 44mm (1.7″) wider rear body (to accommodate larger tires), a 15mm (0.6″) lower front spoiler lip (for more downforce on the front axle), and a larger rear wing (for additional downforce on the rear axle).
Weighing just 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), the car is outfitted with light-alloy 18-inch wheels, a fully controlled catalytic converter, a special racing exhaust system, adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars, and optional ceramic composite brakes that weigh 20 kg (44 lb) less than traditional composite cast brakes.
Power comes from a horizontally-opposed 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 450 bhp (331 kW) at 8,500 rpm. While no official performance figures have been announced, the GT3 Cup should accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than four seconds before hitting a top speed in excess of 314 km/h (195 mph).Available exclusively in Carrara White, the 911 GT3 Cup will be launched this October with prices starting at €149,850.
Based on the upgraded 911 GT3 RS, the GT3 Cup gets a host of enhancements for track use. The bodywork is wider, it sits lower, it’s got more downforce, a competition-spec exhaust, racing wheels housed in flared wheel wells, firmer suspension settings and more – all to improve the most hardcore 911’s competition capabilities. There’s also a new steering wheel with controls mounted on the fascia and hooked up to a full adjustable column, while the Supercup version, used for F1 support races, comes with carbon-ceramic brakes.
The 3.8-liter 450 horsepower flat-six carries over from the street-legal GT3 RS, but even that is bigger and more powerful than the GT3 Cup it replaces. You can order it in any color you want, as long as it’s white, and it’ll set you (or your team) back 150,000 euros – about $215k – minus loose change. The new GT3 Cup is a confirmed debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, and we’ll be there to reel off some live photos for your enjoyment.
